Bieké: 2007-Present
Installations related to my on-going work on Vieques and its continued struggle for peace and justice after 60 years of US Navy weapons practice and maneuvers.

Channeling my upbringing, particularly the spiritual practices I was raised with, my explorations with installations having always centered on altar-making.

detail, Vieques installation, JCAL

Acrylic on drab green US military canvas tent, approx 8' x 10' 2007 debut of the Basta installation at the Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. Dedicated to Vieques, the painting is of Yaurel Figueroa, who was 9 years old at the time. I met him with his dad and uncle at an encampment in Vieques protesting the intended privatization of a local beach. His parents are peace and environmental justice activists, concerned with the health of their children.
