Hand-made greeting card based of my original 2020 acrylic painting on canvas of Puerto Rican freedom fighter Rafael Cancel Miranda.
This painting is a focal point in my CucubaNación artspace in Mayaguez because it is where don Rafa was born and where he returned each year to celebrate his birthday. This portrait was painted on the eve of his transition and my family attended his funeral in Mayaguez. Rafael Cancel Miranda was a Puerto Rican Nationalist who served twenty-five years as a political prisoner of the US for his fight for Puerto Rican independence.

Yasmin Hernandez is a Brooklyn-born and raised artist whose work is centered on liberation themes. She rematriated to her ancestral homeland of Borikén in 2014, where she is still based.
