CucubaNación mural magnet, 2018
Handmade magnet on wood with archival print, acrylic paints3.5 inches
This hand-painted magnet includes a detail of my 2018 Mayaguez mural CucubaNación. In 2022, I opened up a store-front art space directly across the mural, inspiring the theme of the space which is dedicated to Boricua bioluminescence, a nation of light.
Black Backgrounds have been part of my creative practice since 2009 in honor of Vieques’ bioluminescent bay and that took on new meaning after living through Hurricanes Irma and Maria and their dark aftermath.
