Yasmin Hernandez Art
Corazón Luciérnaga, 2019
Limited edition archival giclée print on Velvet Fine Art Paper12 x 9 inches
This print is of my 2019 Corazón Luciernaga painting, which now hangs as part of this installation at CucubaNación, my Mayaguez artspace. CucubaNación celebrates various forms of Boricua bioluminescence. In these works inspired by fireflies, I paint my subjects in red and yellow against black backgrounds, with a green glow. Fireflies are poetically the same colors of black liberation.
Black Backgrounds have been part of my creative practice since 2009 in honor of Vieques’ bioluminescent bay and that took on new meaning after living through Hurricanes Irma and Maria and their dark aftermath.
