Hand drawn with metallic inks on black card stock.  Guanin is the golden medallion worn by caciques, made of a gold/ copper alloy. This portrait of Puerto Rican Revolutionary ancestor Ramón Emeterio Betances is  part of a series honoring warriors of these islands. Betances was an Afro-Boricua, also of Dominican descent, a physician, abolitionist and leader of the September 23rd, 1868 revolution El Grito de Lares.

Yasmin Hernandez is a Brooklyn-born and raised artist who rematriated to her ancestral homeland of Borikén in 2014, where she is still based.
